AI - Google removes Gemini Pro models from most of their subscriptions 😭

Not something I really wanted to write, but as a AI Plus and not a Pro subscriber, I feel it is important to share 😭 I just found out that Google is planning to remove the Gemini Pro models from most of their subscriptions (all that are not Pro), which is quite frustrating for those of us who are not Pro subscribers. This means that even if you are paying for a subscription, you might not have access to the most advanced models unless you upgrade to the Pro tier.

I was really looking forward to Gemini 4 Argon and whatever Pro and Ultra versions of those would become, but now I am not sure what, if anything we will get on AI Plus 😭

I originally heard about it here, so giving credit where it is due:

I recently upgraded to AI Plus, hoping to get access to the latest Gemini models, but now I am not sure what will actually be available to me, the Pro is such a massive jump in costs that it is not really worth it in the slightest. Very annoyed and disappointed 😭

Official “Announcement”

There is no announcement from Google regarding this change, it is just this support page:

Starting in October 2026, there will be changes to model availability for Gemini Apps when you use a personal account.

These changes will start to take effect for users without an AI subscription on October 9th.

For users with an AI Plus subscription, you should receive an email that explains when these changes will take effect for you.

What will be available for free & AI Plus users?

On October 9th, free users will lose access to Flash, meaning they’ll only have Flash-Lite.

Meanwhile, the Google AI Plus subscription tier will lose the Pro model, but they’ll still have Flash-Lite and Flash at their disposal.

Google says Plus subscribers will receive an email detailing when they’ll lose access to Pro.

Every other subscription tier will see no changes.
