AI - Cursor joins The X Subscription, unifying plans with Grok and X
Cursor is joining The X Subscription, bundling access to Cursor and Grok with X benefits under one plan and a shared AI usage pool. That is a pretty big change, especially if you use Cursor and Grok regularly. This was a long awaited change 😊 However, I was hoping to finally try the Grok Bot but it is not in the $8 sub, it is only on the $30 ðŸ˜
With Muse being free (still cannot get it in the UK ðŸ˜), I am still holding off for now. Let us see which of the agents will prevail 😂
The X Subscription
Official announcement
SpaceX Super Intelligence says the new subscription unifies plans across Grok, Cursor and X Premium:
The pitch is that you can code with Cursor, use Grok products and get X benefits under the same subscription:
Cursor says existing subscribers can either keep their current plan or switch. On paid X Subscription plans, eligible Grok and Cursor usage draws from a shared pool that refreshes weekly. Cursor also says the new plans provide twice the coding usage on Grok models compared with the equivalent Cursor plan.
There is an important catch for people who use models from other providers in Cursor: those are not included in the subscription usage pool. They remain available at API list prices and are billed separately.
More on the launch
Muskonomy has also published a short overview of the five tiers and what the switch means:
Pricing
Here are the current individual plan prices shown on the official pricing page. The usage multipliers are relative to Plus; actual consumption depends on which products you use.
| Plan | Price per month (USD) | Included AI usage | Highlights |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Limited | Limited AI requests |
| Plus | $8 | Base | Shared usage across Grok and Cursor; X creator features |
| Premium | $30 | 4× Plus | Grok Bot, cloud agents and automations, and X Premium features |
| Super | $100 | 15× Plus | Everything in Premium, with priority model access at peak times |
| Ultra | $200 | 50× Plus | Everything in Super, with a larger usage pool |
For anyone currently paying for Cursor, Grok or X Premium, moving to the combined subscription is optional. You can keep your current plan rather than switching.
What is The X Subscription?
Cursor’s overview explains how the shared usage pool, account workspaces, X benefits, and third-party model charges work:
What is The X Subscription? – Cursor Docs
The X Subscription is one subscription that brings Grok, Cursor, and X together. Grok and Cursor share a weekly included usage pool. Your X benefits depend on your plan and apply when you add a personal X account.
That last part matters: connecting an X account is how you get the X benefits, and the amount of included AI usage is shared between Cursor and Grok.
Third-party models in Cursor, like Claude or GPT, aren’t included in your plan. You can still use them in Cursor, billed at API list prices from the first use and paid from your prepaid credit.
So if you rely on Claude or GPT inside Cursor, remember that their usage is on top of the subscription.
The switch is permanent. It can’t be undone, and Support can’t undo it for you.
That is a pretty important detail to know before linking accounts.
How to unify accounts
The official guide explains how to combine eligible Cursor, Grok and personal X accounts, and where to start depending on which service you already use:
How to unify accounts under The X Subscription – SpaceXSI Docs
One thing to be especially careful about: account unification is permanent and Support cannot undo it. If you have a paid Cursor plan, start the process from Cursor rather than X, as beginning from X does not include your Cursor account. Check you are signing into the right accounts before confirming.
There are also billing exceptions to check before switching. For example, Cursor subscriptions paid through Apple’s App Store must be cancelled and any refund requested through Apple. The official guide explains the other store-specific cases and how unused-time refunds work.
I like the idea of joining up the products, but the shared pool and the permanence of account linking make this more than a simple bundle discount. Make sure you understand which models count towards the allowance, and which accounts and existing subscriptions you are combining, before taking the plunge.
